Welcome to Al Forno — where the soul of Italian wood-fired cooking meets the warmth of Madeira Island. Handmade pasta, Neapolitan pizza, and recipes carried across generations.
The Margherita was perfect: crisp char on the crust, fresh basil, proper fior di latte. Tastes like Naples.
The Rusticana was incredible: rustic toppings, blistered wood-fired crust, exactly what a proper pizza night should be.
Finished with tiramisu and I was speechless. Light, boozy, utterly classic.
The Tomatissimo, piled high with tomato, mozzarella and creamy burrata, straight from the wood-fired oven. Absolute genius.
The burrata was pillowy and fresh. Paired with heirloom tomatoes it was the simplest, best thing I ate all week.

Wood-fired flatbread folded and piled with marinated heirloom cherry tomatoes, red onion, fresh basil and a balsamic drizzle.
Wood-Fired Pizza
Wood-fired pizza with tomato sauce, sun-dried tomatoes and black olives, topped with a whole smoked burrata and cracked black pepper.
Risotto
Creamy Carnaroli rice risotto with roasted pumpkin, topped with seared sliced beef and edible flowers.
Dessert
Classic tiramisù with savoiardi, mascarpone, espresso and Marsala, made fresh daily.

Since opening our doors in Funchal in 2023, and in Machico the following year, Al Forno has been shaped by a multicultural team united by one passion — sharing the true flavours of Italy. We honour traditional recipes, cook with only the freshest ingredients, and welcome every guest into a warm, inclusive space where a memorable time is always on the menu.
